We would do the same trip again; and highly recommend it to energetic and curious adults with some canoeing experience. FoFo, our Tico guide; Jorge, our bus driver; and Larry Laba provided for unique, educational, and safe experiences that would have been nearly impossible for us to create on our own. All our needs – food, lodging, transportation, local guides, and equipment – were taken care of expertly and efficiently. At all times we felt comfortable. We just had to show up each day with inquisitive minds. All our guides spoke English; but there was ample opportunity to speak the local Spanish if so desired.

The flora and fauna of Costa Rica are magical; the habitats varied; the climate and beaches warm respites from frigid northern winters. We were immersed in Tico culture and lifestyle through food at local sodas, remote lodging at an operating ranch, and the wisdom of local Tico guides. The five rivers we floated were interesting, each with its unique challenges, flora, and fauna. Hikes, hot springs, zip lines, horseback rides, beach combing, bird searches, and impromptu talks with Tico pineapple and cassava growers made each day a rewarding adventure.

Our group consisted of three married couples ranging in ages from 45 to 66. The couples had not met before the trip, but got along fabulously and enhanced each other’s understanding and enjoyment of Costa Rica because of their unique backgrounds. We made friends that we would gladly journey with again.
