Costa Rica Itinerary

Day 1:  Travel to San Jose, Costa Rica and meet group in the evening at a hotel close to the airport

PhotobucketDay 2:  An early morning start will lead to a drive west towards the Central Pacific coast.  We make a few stops before reaching our mid morning destination: Zip lining through the canopy.  After a sea side lunch at a wonderful small restaurant, we'll head towards Manuel Antonio, stopping along the way to look for scarlet macaws, the large parrot with bright red plumage.  Arriving in the small village of Manuel Antonio, we'll have time to take a dip in the warm Pacifc waters before dinner.  Evening free. (B,L,D)

Day 3:
We will spend most of the early morning in Manuel Antonio National Park discovering an amazing array of wildlife that makes their home within the confines of the park. The afternoon is free for beach time.  (B,L,D)

Day 4:  Whitewater rafting is on the schedule for today.  We will head out of town to the Savegre River, one of Costa Rica's most pristine and beautiful rivers. We will raft class 3 rapids, enjoy swimming in warrm waters in calm sections, and hike to a hidden waterfall.  (B,L,D)

Day 5:  We hit the road north until we reach Carara National Park, known for its wide variety of bird and wildlife. Carara is the area where the dry forest meets the rainforest, and many species are found in the park.  We will hike in the park for several hours. Continuing north, we will make a few short, interesting stops until we reach our day's final stop...a small hot springs resort.  After dinner, we will hike through the rainforest to some wonderful creekside hot springs. (B,L,D)

Day 6: We drive a short way distance to the Arenal region, and to a ranch that will be our final 2 night stop.  After lunch we will take a tour of the ranch and learn why it is one of the most sustainable ranches in all of  Costa Rica. Then we will take a sunset hike up to the top of a close-by ridge line to watch the sunset over Lake Arenaland enjoy a spectacular, rarely seen view on the Arenal Volcano. (B,L,D)

Day 7:  Early moring yoga for those that are interested. Then after breakfast, we will hop on some remarkably beautifully bred horses for a ride into the rainforest. After a while, we will reach the end of the horse trail, and proceed on foot to a beautiful waterfall that so few people will ever see. We will take our time and swim in the pool beneath the waterfall. Evening:  optional activities (B,L,D)

Day 8:  On the road back towards San Jose, we stop in the crafts town of Sarchi, where we have an opportunity to purchase local crafts and souvenirs from the people who produce them.  Arrival the final hotel for flight back the next morning.
