Day 8 Scarlet Macaw Migration,
Ziplines & Carara Biological Preserve
This area is where the eco-systems of the
dry forests meet the eco-systems
of the rainforest, so there is an
unusual mix of flora and fauna. An old-growth
forest of striking complexity and density,
Carara's giant trees include 10 of the rarest
hardwoods in Costa Rica. This unique
combination of ecosystems is habitat for
many rare and endangered species,
including one of the largest populations
of scarlet macaws in the country, which
migrate twice daily from the inland rainforest
to the coastal mangrove swamps.
This morning we rise early to seek scarlet macaws on their morning migration. Later in the morning we will fly like toucans in the rainforest as we take a zipline tour through the forest canopy. Finished with this adventure, we will transfer to the nearby resort town of Manuel Antonio. (B,L,D)
