For the first time in 7 years, we are happy to offer an exciting weekend paddling clinic to teach you better skills when paddling your SOAR canoe.

Are you currently using a kayak paddle?  We will teach you how to use a canoe paddle.  Need to learn how to read water better?  You will learn it here.  Having a difficult time effectively communicating with your paddling partner?  We’ll show you both great strokes to get your SOAR where you want it when you want it.  Do you want to better control and maneuverability of your SOAR?   This clinic is for you!

Where:  On the Russian River near our Healdsburg office
When:  Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17
Cost:     $60 pp per day, regardless of whether you are paddling a SOAR solo or tandem.  In order to attend Sunday, you must attend Saturday.  It is possible to attend Saturday only.

Who is teaching?  Our instructor is my good friend Shane McColgin, an ACA certified canoe and kayak instructor.  Shane is a fun, enthusiastic teacher, excellent communicator, and top notch paddler.

On Day 1, we will be spending our time at one location on the Russian River that offers you the opportunity to learn the skills for nailing eddy turns, avoiding obstructions without broaching , and ferrying your boat.

On Day 2, we will paddle a 4 mile stretch of the river that will allow you to apply your new skills to many different situations as you also begin to sharpen your "river reading" skills. The goal of this class is to help you learn the many ways you can increase your choices, enhance your safety and, ultimately, create an even more enjoyable and exciting boating experience for yourself.

What to bring:  Your SOAR canoe and paddles, pfd, proper paddling gear, lunch and plenty to drink.

Need lodging:  We can recommend several local Healdsburg hotels and motels.
